  • The Associate Accountant provides accounting support to various operating groups within the Dairy Group. This support will be instrumental in ensuring the company maintains strong and accurate accounting records and in meeting compliance requirements. This will be accomplished by utilizing the Associate Accountant’s experience base in accounting and financial controls. This position will be responsible for: (1) supporting and assisting the Area Controller in accomplishing the requirements as set by the company which will include ensuring that all accounting entries within the groups they support are timely, accurate, and comply with generally accepted accounting principles, (2) assist in completing the monthly close process and ensuring balance sheet entries are reconciled, reviewed, and have appropriate supporting documentation, (3) working with the Area Controller to support internal/external audit in ensuring all controls are in place and any discrepancies noted are corrected or have a measurable action plan in place to correct the discrepancies, (4) as directed, assisting in the preparation of the appropriate quarterly and annual reporting packages, (5) performing special projects as required, and (6) other duties as assigned.

    The Associate Accountant is responsible for providing functional advice and/or training for other employees.

    The Associate Accountant will work closely with and for the Area Controller. Additionally, The Associate Accountant will work closely with and support the appropriate Group VP(s), Director(s) of Financial Analysis and Planning, General Managers and other staff members, to include: Human Resources, Operations, and Sales. The Associate Accountant will have a close working and support relationship with the General Manager of the plant for which they are responsible. Additionally, the Associate Accountant will work, on occasion, with the Dairy Group Corporate Finance and Planning/Integration staff to ensure consistency in reporting and processes and in completing assigned special projects. The Associate Accountant will frequently interface with various members of the Internal Audit team and the company’s external auditors. Will be involved in developing an operating budget of a profit center(s) with revenues ranging from $100 million to $300 million.

    B.S /Acct or business, or related field, with a minimum of 30 semester hours of accounting credit. An advanced degree in Accounting as well as a CPA license is desired, but not required. Experience: 1-3 years related experience. It is preferred that this experience have come from work assignments in Audit (either internal or external), General Accounting, or Cost Accounting. May come from a multitude of sources, with preference given to experience in fast-paced consumer products, manufacturing, food service, or a public accounting background.

    Specialized Knowledge – strong knowledge of GAAP and other areas related to financial reporting requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    Annual budgeting process.
    Prepare monthly forecast of revenue and expense.

    Monthly results analysis.
    Prepare monthly reporting package including actual vs. budgeted financial results and variance analysis.

    Strategic Planning.
    Develop 5 Year plan including profitability, capital requirements, cash flow and plant utilization.

    Make recommendations to Senior Management regarding product development, pricing, plant capacity, geographic expansion, etc.

    Resource Allocation.
    Prepare annual capital expenditure forecast and budgets.
    Prepare annual forecast of labor requirements.
    Provide input regarding optimum inventory policies.
    Prepare monthly actual vs. budget analysis and recommendations of required adjustments.

    Acquisition Support.
    Analyze financial performance of acquisition targets.
    Participate in financial due-diligence activities.
    Perform valuation analysis.
    Assist with integration of financial processes and procedures of acquired businesses.

    Pricing Support.
    Work with financial, operational, and industry data to develop pricing alternatives.

    Assist in development and implementation of financial systems and reporting.
    Leverage current operational and cost accounting systems.
    Develop integrated budgeting tools.
    Develop monthly management reports package
    Working with Controller insure absolute integrity and accuracy of financial reporting.


    Education and Experience

    Degree in Business or Finance, MBA preferred.
